Former Manufactured Gas Plant Sites

Former manufactured gas plant (MGP) sites provided gas to many towns from the early 19th century to the late 20th century. The residues that resulted include coal tar as well as contaminated soil, sediment, and groundwater, which are still present today. Vadose Remediation offers cost-effective and innovative products that have successfully remediated former MGP sites for redevelopment.

thermal remediation

Thermal remediation can be used to volatilize, immobilize, or destroy contaminants from former manufactured gas plant sites. Contact us to learn more about thermal treatment solutions based on the site remediation objectives and conditions.

Organoclay and reactive core mat

Organoclay is an effective way to attract and hold organic compounds found in contaminated groundwater and sediment. Moreover, Organoclay is an effective stabilization agent that allows Portland cement to cure properly.

Organoclay can be deployed in a variety of applications at a former manufactured gas plant site, including as part of a permeable reactive barrier, as an amendment for in-situ solidification stabilization, and as a sediment cap with Reactive Core Mat.

Activated carbon

Activated carbon effectively binds VOCs and PAHs at former MGP Sites. Activated carbon is often utilized in wastewater treatment systems and in PRBs.
