For sites contaminated with heavy metals, disposal can be costly if deemed hazardous by USEPA's TCLP evaluation. A more cost-effective alternative is to stabilize the contaminated soil or sediment. Free Flow reagents deliver the most effective treatment at low dosages. Free Flow has been successfully used by municipal, state, federal and private sector clients for more than a decade to treat soils contaminated with: lead, chromium, arsenic, mercury, cadmium, antimony, selenium, and barium. Applications have included industrial sites, military/gun ranges, mining wastes, and more.
Effectively treated 8,000 tons of heavy metals contaminated soils. The primary metal of concern was barium, with total levels greater than 50,000 mg/kg (ppm) with lead and cadmium as metals of secondary concern. All metals passed required TCLP levels after 5% by weight treatment with Free Flow.
A Colorado-based hazardous waste disposal company originally quoted the remediation contractor $250,000 to dispose of soils containing lead. After successful treatment, the cost for the Free Flow reagent materials delivered to the jobsite to treat the soil was less than $10,000 — a significant cost savings for contractor's client.
Free Flow was utilized to stabilize a variety of heavy metals including lead, chrome, cadmium, antimony, selenium, and zinc at several locations on site. The project was completed in conjunction with U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. The project involved the treatment of 12,000 tons of soil.
Free Flow 100® (FF-100®) reagent is utilized throughout the United States in both fixed-based applications and remediation projects for the stabilization of heavy metals in contaminated waste materials and soils.
FF-100® is effective on a variety of RCRA metals and most frequently used to stabilize lead, cadmium, barium and chromium. The chemistry is capable of achieving results below the universal treatment standard and produces a stabilized material with long-term stabilization characteristics.
Typical applications include lead battery recyclers, industrial plants, firing ranges, soil remediation.
Free Flow 200® (FF-200®) reagent has proven to be an effective and economical alternative to traditional blends for lead stabilization in soils and sludges. FF-200® is easy to handle in the field and provides effective non-reversing fixation of the lead at low dosages.
Typical applications include mine tailings waste, contaminated river sediments, landfills, firing ranges, and industrial sites.
The chemistry is robust and fast acting to form insoluble salts with RCRA metals at low dosages and ensures protection from future liability in onsite and commercial landfills.
When compared to the competition, this chemistry sells at half the cost and ensures a lower dosage than other chemistries, resulting in cost savings.
Typical applications include battery and electronic recyclers, smelters, soils remediation, and industrial facilities.
