Organoclay applications include groundwater pump and treat, sediment dewatering, as an amendment in an in-situ solidification/stabilization application, in a permeable reactive barrier, and as part of a sediment cap. Activated carbon can be deployed in similar applications when the target contaminants are higher solubility.
Active capping continues to offer many advantages that can be tailored to each specific application, including both partial and full sediment capping. Sediment capping involves the sub-aqueous placement of a barrier layer of material over contaminated sediment. Sediment capping reduces the potential for contaminant exposure by preventing re-suspension and transport to other non-affected areas. CETCO's Organoclay can be deployed in bulk or as part of a sand cap. Additionally Organoclay can be deployed as part of Reactive Core Mat. Many factors go into the decision for a remedial design of contaminated sediments. Let us help you with design evaluations, provide technical assistance with modeling cap life, or potential stabilization or solidification mix designs. Regardless of the remedy, our technical team is able to assist.
ORGANOCLAY F: A proprietary granular filtration media that reliably adsorbs oils and similar organics from water. It is a mixture of 30% active ORGANOCLAY and 70% anthracite filter media, which allows for maximum utilization of the large sorption capacity of ORGANOCLAY without excessive pressure build-up in the column.
ORGANOCLAY MRM: In addition to adsorbing non-aqueous phase liquids (NAPL) and dissolved low-solubility organics, specially-formulated, sulfur-impregnated ORGANOCLAY MRM sequesters mercury (Hg0, Hg+1 and Hg+2) and arsenic (As+5) from water.
ORGANOCLAY SS-199: Our finest-grain media, ORGANOCLAY SS-199 features medium adsorption of oils, greases, and other NAPL and helps stabilize organics for increased solidification of treated soils and sediment. ORGANOCLAY SS-199 is for use in soil or sediment solidification/stabilization or as an additive to Portland Cement.Applications:
ORGANOCLAY PM-199: Our second finest grain media, PM-199 features high adsorption capacity of oils, greases, and other NAPL and can be used on its own or in series with activated carbon. When used as a filtration media prior to an activated carbon vessel, PM-199 extends the life and of activated carbon by removing larger molecular organics that can cause fouling.
ORGANOCLAY PM-200: Our second coarsest grain media, ORGANOCLAY PM-200's particle size aids in settling through the water column when placing a bulk active in-situ sediment cap. ORGANOCLAY PM-200 is also your best match for intermixing with coarse inert soil for use of a Permeable Reactive Barrier (PRB). Applications:
Deployed as an active in situ treatment layer directly over contaminated sediment, REACTIVE CORE MAT can be deployed instead of - or in combination with - dredging. Depending on site conditions, traditional sand caps may prove unfeasible, or result in an excessively thick design. Active cap designs incorporate adsorptive media to capture the contaminants and result in a reduced cap thickness.
REACTIVE CORE MAT is a patented permeable composite mat that encapsulates active material(s) between two layers of adhered, non-woven carrier geotextiles. Allowing water to pass through the active material to remove the contaminant while physically isolating contaminated sediments from the environment of the reestablished benthic zone.
